Mentoring

So many young adults are stuck per say. They've tried numerous approaches however nothing seems to work. When you mentor a child or a young adult , the rewards are endless. Through mentoring, you help them regain confidence that once was lost and self-esteem that seemed to have drowned. True change requires a system that inspires and builds inner-discipline that is self directed.

Life Skills Training

Our participants need to hone their life skills abilities in order to move forward and live balanced and functional lives. Wilahmena's Place Inc.'s approach to Life Skills Training is correlated to each participants individual needs. Whether it be assisting participants in creating weekly budgets or teaching them simple banking and finance, our Life Skill curriculum helps prepare today's young adults for independent living in the real world, goal planning and achieving.

Drug/Alcohol Literature/Counseling

Experimentation with alcohol and drugs during adolescence is common. Unfortunately, teenagers often don't see the link between their actions today and the consequences tomorrow. They also have a tendency to feel indestructible and immune to the problems that others experience. Using alcohol and tobacco at a young age has been proven to have negative health effects. While some teens will experiment and stop, or continue to use occasionally, without significant harm to themselves and possibly others. Others will develop a dependency, moving on to more dangerous drugs and causing significant harm to themselves and possibly others. 

For many teens, illicit substance use and abuse become part of the landscape of their teenage years. Although most adolescents who use drugs do not progress to become drug abusers, or drug addicts in adulthood, drug use in adolescence is a very risky proposition. Even small degrees of substance abuse i.e. alcohol, prescription medication, marijuana, and inhalants can have negative consequences. Wilahmena's Place Inc. has a part-time licensed addictions counselor to advise our clients.

Domestic Abuse Education/Counseling

In the past two decades, there has been growing recognition of the prevalence of domestic violence in our society. moreover, it has become apparent that some individuals are at greater risk for victimization than others. Domestic violence has adverse effects on individuals, families, and society in general. Domestic violence includes physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse, and abuse to property. Exposure to this form of violence has considerable potential to be perceived as life-threatening by those victimized and can leave them with a sense of vulnerability, helplessness, and in extreme cases, horror. Most of the young ladies across the continent suffer an enormous amount of abuse and they don't know it. Wilahmena's Place Inc staff is here to reassure the participant there are ways to remain safe and get the necessary information they need in order to know that abuse is not ok.

Parental Help

Parents are overwhelmed these days, with the expectations to be all things to their children. Here at Wilahmena's Place Inc., we offer services to parents that will assist with empowering their young adult to continue to work on their daily lives while they are starting to evolve their core attitudes, obligations and improve communication skills.
